Stem Cell Therapy

A Phase I trial led by Søren P. Sheikh confirmed the curative promise of stem-cell therapy in erectile dysfunction. Of eleven urine-continent men treated with autologous adipose-derived stem cells, eight fully regained erectile function and resumed sexual activity. To qualify, participants must have suffered ED for nine to eighteen months post-prostatectomy and shown no response to PDE-5 inhibitors like Viagra.

The curative potential of stem cell therapy for the treatment of erectile dysfunction has been demonstrated by a clinical phase I trial led by Søren P Sheikh. In this study, 8 out of 11 urine continent men who received autologous adipose-derived stem cell treatment regained erectile function and the ability to engage in sexual intercourse.

Inclusion criteria for the study were that patients had to have experienced erectile dysfunction for between 9 and 18 months after prostatectomy, and to have received no benefit from taking PDE-5 inhibitors like Viagra.

Subsequent clinical studies have replicated these encouraging outcomes (see selected publications below).

Our preclinical work further suggests that allogeneic Blue Cells may match—or even surpass—the restorative effects observed with autologous cells in these trials.
